Music in worship inspires us, calls us to worship, and helps us express our love for God. South Highland Presbyterian Church offers a number of ways for people to participate in the ministry of music: The Sanctuary Choir is open to anyone with a love for sacred music. Music of all styles is rehearsed on Wednesday evenings for performance in church on Sunday mornings. Larger works are often prepared for use either in worship services or for special concert events to which the entire community is invited. The Hand Bell Choir plays a five-octave set of Shulmerich bells and two octaves of chimes. Our youth are using the chimes to begin learning about these magnificent instruments. Hand bell ringing is fun and develops musicianship and teamwork, and adds an exhilarating aspect to worship. Thirteen ringers are required to play the entire set. With rehearsals on Wednesdays before dinner, the hand bell choir participates in worship on many occasions throughout the year. Children’s Vocal Choirs are available for youngsters of elementary school age, giving them an opportunity to learn music, learn to use music in worship, perform music composed for their age group and abilities, and enjoy making music with folks their age. Practice time is on Wednesday evenings, and performances take place during worship services throughout the church year.
